Malaysia Passport Renewal

I had to renew my passport before applying for my work permit. Like many many, I dread visiting the immigration office as I recalled the long wait 5 years ago.

To my surprise, the immigration office in Pusat Damansara was quite efficient. I arrived approximately 7.45am to collect my number and noticed that the counter has already open for service. According to the official website, it is only open at 8.00am.

With my number in hand (1030-meaning 29 person is ahead of me), I waited approximately 45 minutes before my number was called. Afterwhich I was required to wait for another 30minutes to make my payment. Once that was done, I was told to return in 2 hours to collect my brand new passport.

As I was in Pusat Damansara, there was plenty of mamak stalls to have my breakfast and kill time. Also, since I graduated from HELP University College, I took the opportunity to visit my old campus. Boy, was I walking in memory lane.

After 2 hours, I returned for collection. I waited for another 20 minutes and my brand new passport was ready. I managed to get all this done by 11.30a.m.

I walked away happy and impressed by the level of service improvement. Credits has to be given to our government who have tremendously improved their services.

Quick Tips:

  • Be there early - I reckon around 7.30am - 8.30am so that your passport is ready before lunch.

  • Be prepared - You will a photocopied I/C, 2 passport pictures (you can smile - i.e show yor teeth- to avoid horrible gangster-like pictures), Renewal form - duplex printing (downloaded from the official website).

  • Cash - A payment of RM300 or RM600 is required depending of the number of pages.

  • Entertainment - Bring a book/magazine or entertain yourself with some good music to kill the waiting time

I Hate Filling Up Forms!

Among the few things in life that really gets into my nerves is forms filling. There is no way of escaping this dull and "tormenting" experience. It brings you to a boring path where it ask the same old questions - Age, gender, Name, Address - over and over again.

We need to think of a way to automate this tedious work. How I wish there is an application that automatically fills up my standard details (i.e: name, address, phone number, gender etc) just by scanning my identification card or with a scan of my thumb print. Whatever unique fields can be completed manually. Maybe there is already such a technology but I have yet to see it.

Do you ever wonder how many forms we fill up in our lifetime? I am guessing 1,000,000 forms at least. Imagine the amount of time we can save if forms do not exist.

Oh well, since there is way of escaping it, I better complete my forms tonight or else I won't get my working permit ready.

Some thoughts from a virgin blogger

I am never a fan of blogging . The decision to start a blog is due to my new job posting - beginning in Jan 2008-which takes me away from my family and friends *weep*weep*. So, I thought to leverage on the World Wide Web to share my experiences abroad.

Though I am still pretty new in blogging, I have a brief idea of the theme/ approach to my personal blog. After some consideration as per below:

  • Never fancy writing
  • Never good in expressing myself in words
  • Love to take photograps - Camera Whore
  • Enjoy photo editting
  • Personally believe pictures is way more interesting that boring text

I decided to "Photo Blog". This blog will be my E-scrapbook where I cut and paste various of photographs of my life journey. It willbe a good means to perserve my memories.

So, stay tune as I will be uploading loads of pictures on myself, mainly picture of interesting events - i.e travel, dinners, outings , bla bla- you get the drift.

And don't forget - you will be seeing it through the eyes of Song Yia.
