GSD Hamburg Kickers(Foosball) Tournament

I participated in my company’s kickers tournament today. A totally of four rounds were played. Each round took 10 minutes and we had to change our partners after each game. This is chosen randomly. The aim is to collect the most points where 2 points is rewarded to a win, 1 for a draw and 0 if you lost.

The game started at around 5 after everyone enjoyed some snacks and beer. Yes, we do serve beer in within the office compound. This is relatively different compared to Malaysia where we are strictly prohibited to serve any forms of alcohol.

Surprisingly, I was on the top of the table collecting 6 points in after the third game. I didn’t hold my position as I lost the last game. However, I am still the champion for the woman category and second place overall! This is an achievement as I was the 1st runner up in the GSDKL kickers tournament last year.

You will never guess the prize I received! I got a “Bavarian costume”. I am not too sure when I am going to wear it. Perhaps in Halloween where there are some costume party or something?

After the tournament, a bunch of us decided to continue move on to a nearby pub for a couple of drinks and a few more kickers game. We started our night at 9pm and ended the next morning at 6 am. I wasn’t expecting to party but it naturally ended up a night out with loads of drinks.

I was introduced to a shooter called Mexicana. It looks like Bloody Mary at a first glance but is is not tomato based. I am not too sure what is in the shooters but I like it. The peppery after taste is nice after a couple of beers.

The Bunch of us enjoying Jãgermeilter shots!

There was a also Jãgermeilter which is a drink that gotten its popularity a few years back. It used to be a drink for old man however, due to good marketing strategy, it is popular among the youths today. Jãgermeilter has its unique taste. It is a shooter btw. Since they were giving away free shots, you can imagine how many shots each of us consumed.

Throughout the night, we visit a few bars, my memory serves me right, I think we entered at least 6 bars/pubs. It was a good night out. Too bad it was not on Saturday, else I would be able to visit the Fischmarket. Nevermind, I am sure the opportunity will arise.

Beijing Olympic Torch Relay

I have been closely following the Beijing Olympics torch relay and it is pretty disappointing to see much trouble surrounding it. It is saddening to see how demonstrators (who protest against Beijing Olympics because of Tibet) got violent and tried to dim the torch. I am not against a peaceful gathering as I believe everyone has the right to voice their thoughts. But once it gets violent, it s a big NO NO!

Recalling back in school, I remember learning that wars were stopped so that the Olympics can go on. Why can't it be the same here. Whatever dispute should be put aside when the games are held in August. From my point of view, if countries were to boycott the games, it is the atheletes who would suffer the lost. These group of individuals trained for years to represent their country for this pretisgous event, so why should they be prevented from displaying their skills because of some political dispute?

Unfortunately, clearly the world can seperate politics and sports. We are seeing so many violant protest in the America, Paris and London. I am highly disappointed with Richard Gere who is promoting a boycott against the Beijing Olympics. He is one of my favourite actor but after his support to boycott the games, my impression of him as changed.

The torch will be in Kuala Lumpur soon. Sadly, I am not in the country, else I will definately go and support the torch relay. Cross my fingers that the torch will go on smoothly in my home country without any hiccups.

Ok, enough of my 10 cents view of the hooo haah surrounding the Beijing Oympics and Tibet.

Easy Cooking

My colleague commented today that my blog is all about food. Well, I am currently learning and improving my cooking skills and hence cooking is a topic of interest of mine now. =)

During times when you are too lazy to prepare a fancy meal, this is a prefect dish. This is so simple to prepare and it is so yummy. It is basically bread with some pasta sauce. Sprinkle some cheese on top, bake for 2 minutes and it is done. Its my simple version of pizza.

Curry Noodle

I decided to cook up something a little fancier this weekend. As you can see from the picture I prepared curry noodle for my dinner. This is a Thai style curry where I used coconut milk at the base. It goes perfectly with noodle or rice.

Sunday Morning

I decided to wake up early a pay the Fisch Markt a visit since I needed to stock up with kitchen with some food. The weather was good as the sun was up and shining.

The Fisch Markt is one of my favourite places in Hamburg as it is o vibrant and you can really get a bargain on fruits and vegetables. Check out what I bought. I only spent 7 Euros for 1kg of tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, 3 head of salad and 3 mangoes! What a bargain. I was tempted to grab more stuff but I am alone and I can’t manage to carry any more.

You can imagine how heavy when all the items are combined. My arm was about to give up on me. Thank god I managed to preserve and successfully carried the stuff back to my apartment. It was a great work out indeed.

Crazy Craving

For the last few days I have this ridiculous craving for cakes. This is probably due to my PMS. I could not resist myself when I saw this strawberry cake when I was out window shopping. I bought the slide of cake and went home to indulge in to. It was so satisfying.

Paranoid?

I decided to walk home today as the sky was bright and the weather permits it. The walk home was great as I was enjoying the view of the blossoming flowers along the street while enjoying matchbox 20 latest album exile of mainstream. I reached a corner and took a turn like as I continued walking, I approach a lane and before I could cross the lane, a car reversed and stopped in front of me.

The drivers wind down his window and began talking. I approached the car as I thought he needed some direction. He began talking in German and I replied politely that I don’t understand. He spoke 20% English and then he took a piece of paper and started scribbling. A car approached from the back and he was required to move, he handed over the paper which had his email and phone number.

At this point of time, I knew something was fishy and continued to walk on. He moved his car forward and stopped again in front of me. This time asking me for my contacts and my heart started pounding. I was thinking “Have I met with some psychopath that will kidnap me and god knows what he would do.” I politely told him “no” and continued walking while he drove off.

I was so paranoid that he would follow me home that I keep on watching my back. Immediately I picked up my phone and called Benny told him my experience. I need some comfort from someone familiar at that moment. While I continued walking I was wary if I was followed and I reached home safely.

I always thought I was streetwise. Today’s experience thought me to be more careful. I tend to take things for granted when I am in a “safe” country. You may say that I was paranoid and the chap was trying to pick me up. But I tell myself that I rather be safe than sorry. There are so many freaks out there and today I met with one of them.

Lesson Learn:

  • Don’t talk to strangers.
  • Use different route home to break the routine.
  • Its always good to have company (I am waiting for my colleague to come back to Hamburg and we can head home together).
