The 23 year old New Yorker never fails to entertain me with her theatrical performance, sense of fashion, provocative lyrics and of course good vocals. Her unique style is a breath of fresh air in the music industry.

25 September 2009 marks the 250 anniversary when Sir Arthur Guinness signed the lease to brew the world renown stout in Dublin, Ireland. Kuala Lumpur, representing the South East Asia region, held the celebration in Sunway Lagoon Theme Park which apparently attracted 15,000 Guinness and Music fans.

The day started off with numerous local and international bands and ended with Black Eye Peas (BEP)! Though, I was on my feet for a good 2 hours, the party rocked on as soon as BEP took the stage. The highlight of the night was Will.I.AM's Dj performance. It was fantastic! This choice of music remix was to my liking and the transition from each song was smooth. I enjoyed every moment of it.

Let's us all lift our chilled pint of dark and smooth Guiness draft and make Global Toast to the remarkable Sir Arthur Guinness. TO ARRRRTHHUUUURRRRRRRRrrr!

I got this beer from my trip to Brussel, Belgium. This is truly a girly beer. Its sweet and the peach flavour is fairly strong. It does not taste like beer to me but it's a good drink in the hot summer weather!

A Visit To China Town (Petaling Street)

Its the forth day of new year and my mom and I decided to make our way to the temple in China Town (Petaling Street) to offer some prayers. I understand that this is one of the oldest temple in Kuala Lumpur.

This time around, I decided to bring my camera along. I have been taking Petaling Street for granted. I come to realised that it is filled with vibrant colours which makes it perfect for photography. I am no expert in photography however I love the way the colours turned out in pictures.

I need to make a point to take more pictures in Malaysia. There is the tendency to ignore the beauty of your own country.

Welcoming the year of the ox

Gong Xi Fa Chai! I am fortunate enough to return for this year Chinese New Year celebration.When I returned, I noticed my house is already equipped with a variety of cookies ranging from almond cookies to love letters, soft drinks and beer. It was well prepared to welcome our friends and family who usually drop by to exchange red packets (ang pau) and some mandarin oranges.

New year eve started early in the morning where my mom was already busy in the kitchen. As my family have our ancestor altar at home, we usually pay do some prayers in the morning where we lit joss stick. *Do not ask me for details because I am not very religious, I basically go with the flow*

At noon, we took a quick rest afterwhich it was time to head over to the kitchen to prepare for the reunion dinner. My mom also cooked a feast . It consist of my favourite dishes such as sea cucumber, butter prawns, roast pork and others. It was delicious!

After dinner, it was time for some serious housekeeping. The house has to be spotless before the new year. The Chinese believe that all brooms should be hid on the first day of Chinese new year. Reason being, should you use the broom that day, you will sweep away all your money. I am definitely not going to start the year without MONEY! Hence, as per the normal pratice, brooms were hid and no housekeeping on new year.

Once the house was nice and clean, it was time to sit back, relax and wait to welcome the year of the ox. My mom and I finished a bottle of wine which I carried from Germany while and dad and brother when for the wheatbeer that I also carried from Germany.

When the clock strike 12, my dad (being the head of the family) lit another round of joss stick and then we played some fireworks. I love the smell of gun fire. It reminds me of my childhood when fireworks was legal in Malaysia.

Not long later, my house was filled guest and vibrant celebrative cheers. Everyone was busy chatting, laughing, gambling and enjoying their beer.

So, this is basically how I usually welcome the new year. I just love Chinese New Year. Its the best time of the year!

Christmas Dinner

Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas everyone!

Yesterday, I hosted a dinner party in our apartment. Do you know that, the Germans celebrate Christmas on the 24th instead of the 25th. This means, family gathers for dinner and present are unwrapped on the 24th. I don't really celebrate but from my understanding, most parts of the world unwrapped their present on the 25th. This is something new that I have learned.

Anyways, I decided to play hostess because I thought it was a good idea for all the Malaysians to come together and celebrate Christmas. It was a potluck where everyone brought a little something. My contribution was spaghetti bolognese, roasted chicken and potato gratin. Others brought red beanwith tong yuen (prepared by Joe), Greek salad (prepared by Gajana. I must note that she did a fantastic job in the salad), goulash (prepared by Mei Yin), apples and stollen (by Suk Harn). Last but not list, cincau by Benny. We had plenty of food and by the end of the day we were all stuffed.

After dinner, played a few grounds of UNO afterwhich we chit chat and enjoyed each another company. Overall, I think the dinner party is successfully considering the fact that it's my frist dinner party =)

I will be spending new year's eve in one of my German colleague's home. He has offered to cook us a german meal afterwhich we wil head to the harbour to count down and enjoy some fireworks.

Winter Dom

The Winter Dom is similar to an out door theme park where you have the various theme park rides and games. Besides the rides and games, the Dom also offers a huge variety of food stall for all the hungry Dom visitors. The food ranges from grilled sausages to cotton candy and of course plenty of stall selling beer =)

As you can see from the picture above. We found the Gelatin and we were pretty much spending alot of time posing and snapping pictures. Behind us was a horror house where there are live actors to scare the hell out of you.

I was pretty much addicted to a horse racing game where you have to roll ball into holes what have 1,2 or 3 points. If your ball falls into a the 2 points hole, your horse will move 2 steps. You will be playing against 11 other players and the objective is to reach the finishing line first. I played 3 rounds, lost miserably in the first round, won 1st place in the second (woohooo!!) and second in the third. I decided to redeem a huge mug as my prize because it is something practical. I am glad that I didn't walk away empty handed.

Christmas Markt

Hamburg City centre is beautifully decorated with Christmas lights. I love to walk around the city in the evening this time of the year as the Christmas decorations are so creative.

A bunch of us decided to visit the Christmas Markt after work. This is my 4th or 5th trip to the Christmas markt and I am never bored of it. This time around, I tried a drink called Lumumba which is hot chocolate with a shot of cognac topped with whipped cream. I was told that this is another common winter drink. The cognac gives it a slight bitter taste to the hot chocolate. Nice to have when you are not too stuff with food as I find this drink rather filling.

Ice Kacang falling from the sky!

As of late, Hamburg has been snowing quite abit. To describe it in Malaysian terms, snow is like ice kacang falling from the sky. It also feels like ice kacang and looks like cotton wool falling from the sky. It is very pretty when the place is covered with show because thewhole atmosphere feels and looks clean.

I hope it snows on Christimas so that I can experience a true white christmas!

Back to the cold

As some of you may already know, I am back in Hamburg and experiencing the cold winter. It snowed last Friday which got the bunch of Malaysian here pretty excited. We are exactly 30 days away from Christmas and Hamburg is filled with Christmas lights and decoration. It is lovely and it is hard not to be part of the Christmas Spirit and celebration.

The Christmas Markt officially started yesterday. I paid a visit yesterday evening and enjoyed a nice glass of gluhwein which is a hot red wine mixed with some spices.It is nice drink during the cold winter as it keeps you warm. I will share some pictures of the Christmas Markt in my next post (If I dont end up being lazy).

Also, I am planning to host a Christmas dinner where I am going to invite the fellow Malaysian here over for dinner. I have a basic menu in mind- Roast Chicken, Potato Gratin and some vegetable. I sure hope I don't make a disaster out of the dinner.

I promise to update my blog more often. My apartment's wireless is hopeless and I always get very frustrated when I try to log on.
